Okay...nevermind
Well Memorial Day basically stunk. I went down the road to my grandmother's and 2 of my 3 cousins that were there barely said a word to me. One of them (age 16) avoids me because she thinks that I think less of her now since she's gotten into lots of trouble lately (shoplifting, showing up to school drunk). I don't approve of what she did but it doesn't make me think less of her...I've never treated her any differently...I just wish she would realize that. The other cousin (20-something) tells my grandmother that she thinks so highly of me, and is all excited about the wedding, etc...yet when she's around me she barely acknowledges me. If she thinks so much of me then why doesn't she talk to me? My family treats me like either they think they're better than me, or as if I give the impression that I'm better, just because I'm one of the few people in our family who hasn't gotten into trouble. But I definitely don't feel that way...I don't brag because I haven't made the mistakes they have. And it doesn't mean I never mess up either.
It was also weird because we were having a cookout, and everyone went inside, and to different parts of the house to eat. It was like high school cliques all over again. We're supposed to be having a similar get togther - a cookout wedding shower/graduation party on Sunday - and I'm about to call the whole thing off if it's going to be like that again.
Sorry to rant, I am just so frustrated by this

Families. You don't pick them your just stuck with them.
Don't call off the party on Sunday. I am sure that your Grandmother loves seeing everyone together. Just hang out with her and your hub to be.

Thanks for replying, MollyGirl. Yeah...it would be sad to not have the party. Hopefully since more people will be there than our "usual crowd," certain people won't be so exclusive
I will make you feel a little better in the misery loves company department.
We have been dealing with an Icky water company for a while trying to get them to fix a watermain break - They have been ignoring my development and now it has finally gone for good - No Water small children and a 95 degree day - that is a major YUCK
Oh sweetheart! [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I think everyone has had something like this happen or going on in their family. I know it is hard, but just treat others like you want to be treated. At least you know that you are doing right.
Also; do this for your grandmother. I had to swallow a lot of "sibling/family stuff" when my mother was living just to keep the peace. The scenario you desribed sounds all too familiar.
I have since let it all go, forgave, and went on with my life, You have to. Ill feelings and bitterness is like a cancer that will eat up your happiness. Let it go and move on.

Ugh, yeah everyone goes through something like that, whether it's friends or family...
Sometimes even if you think highly of someone you might be shy around them. You might not know what to say to them that they would think as interesting, I went through this with my teacher this year. So, that may be your cousin's problem.
Have you talked to the younger cousin about this? Maybe if you invited her over to do something special she might realize you don't think less of her.

Sheila and Colleen, you're both absolutely right. I need to be myself, and I definitely want to keep my grandmother happy...nothing makes her happier than having all her family together! There are more important things now anyway. Apparently my 16 year old cousin, the one who has been getting into so much trouble, is saying a lot of things like "life is not worth living," etc. Her sister, dad, our grandmother, and others are fearful she'll attempt suicide, so if you guys think of it you can say a prayer for her. I don't want to give her name but it's Morgan's (me) cousin. And I'm going to do my best to encourage her the best that I can.
